Message From
Pastor and Founders: Rev. Joe Mabula & Ps Lucy Mabula

Alex Outreach Centre (AOC) was founded in October 1998 by Rev. Joe Mabula and Mrs Lucy Mabula. The Ministry celebrates its 20th year of existence in 2018. As a Pastor of this amazing church, I want to thank everyone who has been part of us through the past two decades. I would like to first thank the Lord Almighty for placing this great vision in us. I would also like to thank my wife, Mrs Lucy Mabula and my family for support. I would like to thank the leadership and the members of AOC, who help us reach our vision.

The ministry’s primary aim has always been to find opportunities to grow and develop the community of Alexandra. In order for the Ministry to continue and flourish, we rely on the continued generosity of donors, individuals and organisations who identify with our vision and values and wish to partner with us.

OUR HOSTORY:

ALEX OUTREACH CENTRE (AOC)

Alex Outreach Centre was born out of that challenge, born out of a love for its children, youth, the aged and the sick. Crime, poverty, sickness, disease, unemployment needed to be dealt with from within primarily, but also from the outside, to alleviate the problems experienced. It is still a cry of Alex today. Our cry for assistance. Hence our appeal to you and the difference you can make.

Alex Outreach Centre started from a shack that soon became too small for the numbers of people. In 1998 we moved to larger premises in Marlboro, a 400m2 old decapitated building which also became too small, in the year 2000 Gerber Goldschmidt Group in Midrand, sympathetic to our work and the difference we were making in Alex, offered us their building of 1500m2 in Marlboro. Rent, water and electricity are free, a gesture will never forget and that we cherish, as it has allowed Alex Outreach Centre the spaces to not only accommodate our needs but allowed us the opportunity to become a multi-faceted Ministry, able to serve and address mode of the problems experienced in Alex.

Because of the high rate of unemployment the symptoms of these problems are evident. These areas become target areas: poverty, poor hygiene, poor diets, sickness, disease and crime. In dealing with these problems in Alex, our hearts cry for the children who are born without choices, subjected to the hardship that they have no control over. "Let the little children suffer not" became our motto, the driving force behind our vision. Alex Outreach Centre now has programs in place that have proved successful and efficient.

ALEXANDRA (ALEX). World known Poet and Author of many books, Wally Serote once wrote "I will hide my face with the palm of my hand to hide the atrocities in Alexandra" an emotion expressed by thousands confined within those boundaries. Yet Alex become the birthplace of many townships in existence today because of overcrowding, such as Soweto, Alex has a history of sadness, deprivation, hardships, disadvantage, horror, terror, poverty, crime, sickness, disease and enduring hope of its people longing to be liberated from its bondage, in the middle of that turmoil, on the ruins of Alex rose many of South Africa's greatest leaders, both men and women: people with vision, passion and pride, who looked beyond the boundaries of Alex to that which lay a head, the freedom of their people. Even behind bars they never forgot the people, in spite of their own hardship and sufferings.

In 1994 Alex was liberated. How can especially those who lived through it, young and old, ever forget it? The scars are still evident today and the consequences of those times are still being experienced. One only has to drive through Alex to see and feel what must have been like, no longer can we hide our eyes with the palm of hand, something needs to be done, something needs to be done, something, anything, by continuing with the vision our leaders, fathers and forefather had.
